PLANNING CONSIDERATIONS - Speed Cushions versus Ramps
Speed Cushions and ramps designed to slow down traffic are highly effective. Apart
from the physical effect the ramps have on the vehicles, there is a physiological
effect, as the elements tend to look higher than they actually are.
Ramps have only a very local effect and do not lead to the desired calming of traffic
on a long route. They also lead to increased vehicle noise making them unsuitable
for residential areas.
Where the road is used by cyclist, Plateau cushions should be given preference over
large-size partial cushions.
Divided Plateau cushions offer the greatest flexibility as buses and HGV’s can negotiate
these humps without any difficulty.
PLEASE SEE OUR SPECIFICATION AND PLANNING GUIDE ON PAGE 175 FOR FULLER INFORMATION
AND CONSIDERATIONS.
